The governments of Cuba and the United States are embroiled in a 50 year old conflict, effectively segregating citizens of both nations. Americans cannot freely travel to Cuba. Cubans and tourists are discouraged from intermingling on the island. Communication between the two countries is frustrating at best. Yet somehow, a movement of frikis or metalheads have emerged on the island, asserting their right to rock.
Blockades and Revolutions have proved only one thing: You can’t stop Rock and Roll.
“They Will Be Heard”, directed by Tracey Noelle Luz, is the story of Escape, a Cuban hard core band, determined to survive. It is the story of Cuban metal, of how what joins us together is stronger than what tears us apart.
